"THE BLUES"
The Rhythm Guitar Part

A sequence of chords is called a PROGRESSION or a CHORD PROGRESSION. Each song has its own chord progression. Therefore, the chord progression to one song will be different than that of the chord progression to another song. If you were to play the chord accompaniment (Rhythm Guitar part) to ten different songs, you would play ten different chord progressions.

However, there is one exception. There is a sequence of chords "a chord progression" that is called the BLUES PROGRESSION. The same Blues Progression can be used to play every Blues Song in existence.

Some examples of songs that can be played with the Blues Progression are: BLUE SUEDE SHOES, GUITAR BOOGIE, YOU AIN'T NOTHIN, BUT A HOUND DOG. JOHNNY B. GOODE, SHAKE RATTLE AND ROLL, MABELLENE, ROCK AROUND THE CLOCK, BLUES IN THE NIGHT, ONE O'CLOCK JUMP, TWO O'CLOCK JUMP, ST. LOUIS BLUES (except for the minor strain), and the list goes on and on.

Just what is this magical sequence of chords, you ask? Well, here it is:

THE BLUES PROGRESSION

A more sophisticated version of the PROGRESSION is:

So there, you now have the formula to play the rhythm guitar part to literally hundreds of Blues Songs.
